Matthew G. Liebman, Psy.D. 


Dr. Liebman is a licensed psychologist who specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents, adults, and families. He is a staff psychologist at Watchung Psychological Associates in Warren, NJ. Dr. Liebman is also a psycholoist at the Children's Cancer Institute in the Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital and the Cure and Beyond Program at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ. 

Dr. Liebman received his Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park. Prior to his doctoral training, he received a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Professional Counseling from Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ through which he spent several years working clinically with children and adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorders at the West Bergen Center for Children and Youth in Ramsey, NJ. Dr. Liebman earned his Master of Science (M.S.) in Applied Psychology and Doctoral Degree (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University, Post Campus located in Brookville, NY. He completed his APA accredited internship at Montefiore Medical Center's Child & Adolescent Specialty in Bronx, NY. There, he had full-time residency with the Child Outpatient Department, Adolescent Depression & Suicide Program, and Children's Hospital Behavior Consult Team. Dr. Liebman has also completed clinical externships at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) Pediatric Hematology/Oncology service in Bronx, NY and the Tomorrows Children's Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ. In addition to his work across the span of pediatric, child, and adolescent populations, Dr. Liebman also spent several years treating adults with severe mental illness at West Bergen Mental Healthcare's Partial Care Program in Ridgewood, NJ. 

Clinically, Dr. Liebman has expertise in the use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to treat a wide range of psychological disorders. He is well versed in the treatment of high risk, multi-problem individuals and employs evidence-based psychotherapy to treat depression, anxiety, and other psychological stressors with his patients. He has additional expertise in treatment for those struggling with chronic and acute medical illness and chronic pain, and has advanced training in psychodiagnostic and neuropsychological testing/assessment. Dr. Liebman has conducted research on the impact of television on delay of gratification in children with ADHD, and is experienced in the honing & development of social skills deficits with these children and teens. He has also conducted research on the impact of technology on emotional expression and adaptive coping with trauma, which remains an area of interest for him. His wide range of clinical acumen allows treatment and intervention to be individually tailored to meet each patient's specific needs.
